There’s now official proof in city hall that Hoschton has earned a world record. The city received its official certificate from the U.S.-based World Records Academy on Monday acknowledging that Hoschton has the global title of “Most Scarecrows in One Location.”
Hoschton documented 5,441 scarecrows during its Scarecrow Stampede in September 2008.
And while the Guinness World Records opted to not give Hoschton the title based on a technicality, the World Records Academy gave the city its world record.
The certificate honors the Hoschton Fall Festival Committee — which organized the scarecrow effort. The committee includes: Mayor Bill Copenhaver and Robbie Bettis, co-chairs; Karen Butler, Chuck Cope, Yvonne Copenhaver, Vicki Gable, Teresa Heath, Chris Hoffman, Theresa Kenerly, Bob and Margaret McNaughton, Nancy Mooney, Leah Nelson, Nancy Rhodes, John Schulte, Linda Shepherd, Kristen Mahan, Lisa Stovall, Ray Vaughn, Tom Walden and Mark Williams.
The world record certificate sponsors were: Mike Hayes, Hayes Automotive; Marty Spears, WCTV-24; Robbie and Fred Bettis, Antique Ventures, LLC; Martha Martin, Phil-Mart Transportation; the Kenerly family; Bill and Yvonne Copenhaver; Jonan and Bill Warwick; Ralph and Grace Freeman; Carol Murphy Holzhalb, Joann Howe, Astra Graham and Kimberly Horn.
